ANAKPAWIS PARTYLIST NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS
NEWS RELEASE
July 2, 2008

Justice for all victims of the sunken Princess of the Stars –
Anakpawis Partylist

Anakpawis Partylist today staged a candle lighting activity outside
the terminal of Sulpicio Lines at Pier 12, Manila North Harbor to
condole with the families and relatives of all those who perished in
the sea mishap that killed over 700 passengers and more than a hundred
crew and personnel of Sulpicio's flagship vessel.

"We demand justice for all the victims of this tragedy, including all
passengers and crew members. We know that their families are also
seeking justice and awaiting proper closure to this tragic incident
that transpired due to natural causes and man-made errors," said
Cherry Clemente, Secretary General of Anakpawis.

"All efforts from the Sulpicio management and concerned government
agencies must be done in order to hasten the retrieval of the victims'
bodies and indemnification and compensation of their families."

"Justice must be served. All those who are responsible for this
disaster must be punished accordingly."

Anakpawis members also tied white and black ribbons to symbolize their
sympathies to the families of the victims. They carried paper boats
bearing slogans "Gloria, inuna ang dayuhan bago ang kababayan"
pointing out the President's act of abandonment when she pursued her
working visit to the United States despite the condition of the
country devastated by the typhoon. The activists also carried posters
with"Katarungan sa lahat ng biktima ng paglubog ng Princess of the
Stars."

"Ordinary and poor people become all the more vulnerable to natural
calamities because of the government's failure to upgrade necessary
facilities that could have prevented the extensive damage brought by
typhoon Frank to the country." ###
