"One way to lessen the grief of losing my father is for President Arroyo to order the immediate resolution of the case. The murder of my father should not just be made as another chilling index in the growing list of slain progressive leaders," said Zoe Pornasdoro, eldest daughter of the slain public high school teacher. But although Zoe, also a teacher like her parents, admitted that her parents had been involved in the activist movement since the pre-martial law period, "he was no longer active (unlike) before." The victim and his wife, Beth, started their involvement in the activist movement during their college days at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños. Zoe said that when her mother had an acute ailment in the pancreas two years ago, her father stayed away from the mass movement and concentrated on caring for his sick wife. "We want the government to speed up the process of the investigation. We want immediate justice for my father," she said. The remains of Pornasdoro is now in Pagbilao town. The victim's comrades from the militant movement still recognize the victim as the leader of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) in Quezon. Pornasdoro was walking home when ambushed by a lone gunman some 500 meters from his school late Monday afternoon. The human rights group Karapatan in Quezon pointed to the military as the one responsible for the murder. Army Maj. Jose Broso, spokesperson of the military's Southern Luzon Command based in Camp Nakar here, declined to comment on the killing. Broso said they did not have any information about the killing, except for what media reported. (c)2006 www.inq7.net all rights reserved
