Ka Bel and Ka Osang

Celebrating 50 years of love and struggle

Philippine Heart Center, Quezon City

November 26, 2006

Bonus Track: BAYAN SecGen takes a bride

Into his 10th month of detention, Anakpawis Rep. Crispin (Ka Bel) Beltran and his wife Ka Osang celebrate with family and friends their golden wedding anniversary with a renewal of vows in a mass co-celebrated  by Fr. Joe Dizon and Fr. Ferdie Penullar at the Philippine Heart Center where he has been detained.

Immediately after the mass and photo-ops with family and friends, Ka Bel was escorted back to his room while his bride had to entertain their guests without the groom at the reception party less than a kilometer away.

Ka Bell was illegally arrested and is being illegally detained, yet the authorities did not have it in their hearts to allow him to leave the hospital on such a very special day even for just 3 hours. This contrasts with the treatment given to another well-known detainee who is able to attend his aging mother's birthday a hundred kilometers away.

Letter to his wife

--

Kumusta uli kayong lahat at maraming halik sa ating mga anak -- Odet, Ofel, Olive, Boyet at Nonoy.

Ang sa inyo'y laging nagmamahal,

D A D D Y

Letter to his wife:

Their musician friends -- Jess Santiago, Asin's Lolita Carbon, Wokie and Haranang Bayan  -- provided fine music to go with the words of wisdom from Fr. Joe Dizon. Leading the ninangs and ninongs were Atty. Josie Lichauco, Dr. Carol Araullo, Vice-President  Teofisto Guingona, Rep. Satur Ocampo and Rep. Francis Escudero.

The Arkibong Bayan Web Team extends its best wishes to the newlyweds, and following the example of Ka Bel and Ka Osang,  don't forget to invite us to your golden wedding anniversary. Remember Ka Bel's math: 1+1=11.

About 10 guests, including the photographers, joined Nato and Beng in the bridal car, este vehicle, to transport themselves from the UP Catholic chapel to the reception party at the UP Bonsai Garden. Although the distance traveled was less than 3 km of breathtaking  greenery, some of us suffered from jeep lag.
