News Release February 10, 2007 References: Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy secretary general, KMP and ANAKPAWIS nominee Carl Anthony Ala, public information officer ?Justice for Tatay Daki!?-KMP Death squads became more emboldened due to signing of terror bill In a protest action in Quezon city , the militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) condemned the killing of Dalmacio ?Tatay Daki? Gandinao, 73 years old and former chairperson of its provincial chapter the Misamis Oriental Farmer?s Association and Bayan Muna coordinator. According to Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy secretary general of KMP and ANAKPAWIS nominee, ?Tatay Daki is the 58th KMP leader that was killed since Gloria came to power, while more than half of the 830 victims of extrajudicial killings also came from the peasantry,? ?Tatay Daki is the first victim of political killing after the Senate approved the Terrorism Bill and even though that it is yet to be enacted, the death squads have become more emboldened by its eventual passage, because they also attacked another militant leader Gerry Cristobal in Cavite yesterday. It is obvious that Oplan Bantay Laya 2 is in full swing and that the Terrorism bill is another weapon they will use to justify the killings,? said Marbella. ?Now that the United Nation?s Special Rappporteur for Extrajudicial, Arbitrary or Summary Executions Philip Alston and his team are coming we hope that they can help in stopping the killings. We are asking Mr. Alston to allot more time of their investigation in listening to the victims, their relatives and the organizations that they belong to, because that is the primary purpose of their visit,? added the peasant leader. ?It is not true that 50-70% of the UN team?s time is allotted for civil society organizations or the victim?s families, in fact if they would follow the National Security Council?s (NSC) itinerary they would just be wasting their time in a lot of courtesy calls and briefings from the NSC, DND, DILG, DOJ, NBI, PNP and a slew of other government agencies. As always Norberto Gonzales is lying through his teeth. Evidently they are trying to hide the real human rights situation in our country,? ended Marbella. # # #
