Save Luisa and Nilo Movement

At around 9:30 PM, April 12, 2007, Ma. Luisa Posa-Dominado of SELDA-Panay, Jose Ely “Liboy” Garachico of KARAPATAN, and Nilo Arado of BAYAN- Panay and ANAKPAWIS were on their way to Iloilo City from Antique when they were ambushed at Brgy. Cabanbanan, Oton, Iloilo, Philippines. Their vehicle, a Mitsubishi L200 pick-up, was overtaken by two vans. Two armed men got off from one of the vans, shot the driver, Liboy Garachico, who was then grabbed and thrown to the street. Witnesses saw that an unconscious Nilo Arado was carried off to an L300 van while a resisting Ma. Luisa Posa- Dominado was dragged to a Starex van. One of the suspects then took the victims’ vehicle and sped off to an unknown destination along with the two other vans.

The witnesses immediately rushed to the wounded Liboy Garachico and brought him to Iloilo Doctor’s Hospital. At around 4 AM of the next day, the victims’ burned vehicle was found at Brgy. Guadalupe, Janiuay, Iloilo.

At the moment, both Ma. Luisa Posa- Dominado and Nilo Arado are still missing and Garachico is still in the ICU.

The Families of the victims condemn this brutal act. We hope that our relatives, friends and the sympathetic public will persistently support our call for the release of Ma.Luisa Posa-Dominado and Nilo Arado and pressure their abductors to bring them back alive and unharmed. We pray for the complete recovery of Liboy Garachico. We demand that the perpetrators be brought into the open to face the full force of the law. Let us fight to stop all political repression and extrajudicial killings! Join the SAVE MA. LUISA POSA-DOMINADO AND NILO ARADO MOVEMENT!

GABRIELA Outraged by Continued Lack of Justice for Luisa and Grecil

It has been 16 days since Luisa Posa-Dominado was abducted in Panay and 28 days since 9-year old Grecil Galacio was shot dead by the military in New Bataan, Compostela Valley but justice seems nowhere near for the two of them.

"We are outraged that as the number of human rights violations
against women and children pile up, the Arroyo government remains unperturbed, " said Rep. Liza Maza of Gabriela Women's Party during a press conference this morning.

Maza lamented that Posa-Dominado' s disappearance remains unsolved while it only took the authorities less than two weeks to solve the case of US Peace Corps missionary Julia Campbell. "Luisa has been serving the people for more than two decades and had withstood several political persecutions since the Marcos dictatorship. "

The Gabriela solon also slammed the Armed Forces of the Philippines for what she calls "continued wanton shooting spree".

Three days ago, also in New Bataan, 50-year old Auling Bugahod was killed when members of the 28th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army strafed the vehicle she was riding.

"The Philippine Army can never conduct an independent probe until they completely pull out from New Bataan . If they can shoot a 9- year old girl bathing in the river, they can shoot anyone who will testify against them," said Maza.

According to Emmi de Jesus, Gabriela secretary general, at least 90 women and 54 children have been victims of political killings under the Arroyo administration. "GMA's war on terror is merciless. It does not spare anyone, not even mothers and children."

"For as long as Pres. Arroyo desperately grabs on to its seat in
Malacañang via political repression of the people, Grecil wont be
the last child killed by the military nor Luisa, the last woman
desaparecido, " de Jesus added.###
