According to Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, secretary general of KMP, “this is unprecedented and we will support it as long as we get the assurance that everything will be done to stop the killings and abductions done by state forces against the people. It is very good that the Supreme Court is taking the bull by the horn and facing the problem head on unlike Malacanang who keeps skirting the issue and blaming the victims,” “The summit will also serve as a good venue to elaborate the mechanisms on how to enhance the civil liberties of the people and curtail the repressive powers of the state, especially now that Gloria’s Terror Law is about to be implemented next month,” added Ramos. “We just hope that this will not be all for naught, because as it is with Gloria’s Terror Law the police and military would be like rabid dogs let loose against us and the populace. It is like a ticking time bomb and the SC and civil libertarians must work hard and fast to defuse it, if not then a lot of lives and liberties would be extinguished,” said the peasant leader. “We must do all we can to defend our liberties because if they take this away from us then the next they will take will be our lives or our loved ones, it is a good thing that the Supreme Court is with us in this fight,” ended Ramos. # # #
