Silverio, chief of staff 931.6615, 09195065269 News Release September 1, 2007 Ambassador Kenney's denial of US involvement in Sison arrest untruthful; solon challenges US embassy to allow on-site inspection of areas where US military facilities are being constructed Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran today said that either US ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney is out of the loop when it comes to her government diplomatic, political and economic ties to the Dutch government, or she is deliberately lying when she said that the US has nothing to do with the arrest of National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) chief political consultant Jose Ma. Sison. "It's impossible that the US had nothing to do with Prof. Sison's arrest. The Dutch government, along with Great Britain, is the closest ally of the US in Europe. The Netherlands has been a loyal ally of the US when it launched its global campaign against terror and bombed and occupied Iraq. It's ridiculous to even allege that the Dutch acted on its own initiative in arresting Sison. It was done on the behest of the US government, which in turn counts on the Philippines as its staunchest servant in the Asia," he said. Beltran said that Ambassador Kenney should cease and desist from making declarations and offers of her government's assistance in the Sison case. "In essence what she is offering is for the US to step in and either have Prof. Sison repatriated to the Philippines then assassinated; , kidnapped and detained in a US military facility then executed; or directly assassinated with no more fuss. We are all too familiar with what the US does to political dissidents. The US global police imposes its brutality in the guise of upholding peace and international justice," he said. In the meantime, the activist lawmaker reiterated his stand against the US embassy's denials that the US is building military facilities all over Mindanao. "This is an outright lie on the part of the US embassy and ambassador Kenney. The only way we can all settle this matter is for the US to sanction and allow members of an official fact-finding mission authorized by the House of Representatives to conduct on-site inspections in the areas pinpointed to be sites of US military facility construction," he said. "Will the US embassy allow us this? Will they allow on-site inspections, and will they surrender complete data and information regarding the extent and coverage of the construction activities? We all know that the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) prohibits this, but is the US embassy and the US military command in the Philippines waives this right to secrecy, on-site inspections can be conducted and critics of US military intervention in the country can see for themselves whether or not the US embassy is telling the truth or not." Beltran has already filed a resolution seeking an investigation into the construction of US military facilities in Mindanao. # -- Anakpawis Rep. Crispin B.
