Call for end of US intervention in Joma
case
Youth stage lightning rally at US Embassy
Press Release
September 3, 2007
The youth group League of Filipino Student led a lightning rally in front
of the U.S. Embassy today to condemn US hand in Prof. Jose Maria Sison's
arrest by Dutch authorities.
"The arrest of professor Sison serves both the Arroyo's and Georg Bush's
government as it silences one of the staunchest critics of US-Filipino
relations," said Vencer Crisostomo, national chairperson of the LFS.
Crisostomo explained that Sison, founding chairperson of militant youth
group Kabataan Makabayan in the 60's, have been speaking and writing
extensively against what he described as unequal relations between the two
countries.
"Prof. Sison's writings has helped the youth movement that he once led to
expose the nature of foreign intervention in the Philippines. We will not
allow the US or the Dutch government prosecute him or any other
nationalist," said Crisostomo.
The LFS also said that today's rally was not only for the release of Sison
from detention but also for the removal of his name from the US and
Europian Union's list of foreign terrorists.
"If there is anyone whose name deserves to be on the list of terrorists,
it is no other than Arroyo, whose government have taken the lives of many
activists and civilians in her terrorist war," said Crisostomo.
The youth group vowed to lead more student protest actions until Sison is
released from jail and all forms of political harassment against him are
stopped.
"We call on our classmates to send e-mails to th Dutch embassy and join
our demonstrations for Prof. Sison's release," said Crisostomo. ###

ANAKBAYAN
September 3, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lightning rally at US Embassy;
Youth group slams US hand in Joma case
"The US government has no business meddling in Prof. Sison's case. We are
surprised at the US government's gall and nerve to extend support to the
Dutch government when even the Philippine government itself is weary of
issuing such direct statements because of the lack of legal basis (to do
so)," said Anakbayan chairperson Eleanor de Guzman.
De Guzman said that Prof. Sison's supporters around the world should
express their apprehension over US intervention in Prof. Sison's case
considering the US government's notoriety in treating political prisoners.
"We will not just sit back when the world's leading terrorist government
vies for a hand in prosecuting Joma. We will not allow the US to showcase
Joma as another Saddam Hussein," de Guzman said.
Anakbayan renewed its call to all its youth allied organizations around
the world to double their efforts in campaigning for Prof. Sison's
freedom.
The youth group vowed to intensify protest actions and campus activities
condemning Prof. Sison's continuous detention.
Prof. Sison was a former student activist leader in the '60s. He was the
founding chairman of the historical Kabataang Makabayan. ###
