The Netherlands Consulate receives protests for Prof. Jose Maria Sison release
The Netherlands Consul, Monique T. Looman, received on September 6th, a group of representatives of democratic and people's movements and unions, protesting against the arbitrary arrest of Professor Jose Maria Sison, which happened on August 28th, in Holland. She displayed solidarity to the protesters and received a document given by the entities (see list below, pictures included). She promised to forward it to the Dutch Ambassador who would reply to it. The Consul affirmed her belief the issue would be questioned and that the European people had suffered a lot during the fascist regime.
The entities and workers, teachers, students, lawyers and other movements have gathered in front of the Consulate, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, 1167 Sergipe Street, room 1203, and held a demonstration with banners and posters, demanding the immediate release of Prof. Jose Maria Sison.
Prof. Jose Maria Sison is a Philippine and he has lived as a political exiled in Holland since 1987. He is the chairman of ILPS - International League of Peoples Struggle. He was arrested because of political reasons. As an active participant of the people's and democratic movement he has been persecuted by the Dutch State under the pressure of the Philippines government which has been promoting a large repressive offensive against the democratic movement in the country through arrests and murders of the people's leadership, lawyers and progressive priests. In Utrecht, on August 28th, professor Sison was summoned by the Dutch police and immediately arrested and sent to the Scheveningen Prison, in the Hague.
According to his lawyer, Michel Pestman, professor Sison has been under torture and not allowed to have visits from his wife and doctor, not permitted to have medicines and winter clothes either.
Sison is a political prisoner and his prison an illegal thing! His arrest has occurred in times when there has been an increase of fascism and the policies of persecution and war under the command of George W. Bush imperialist government.
Below find the document delivered at the Embassy which has been signed by entities which condemn the despotic prison of Professor Jose Maria Sison.
*************************************************************** Belo Horizonte, September 6th, 2007.
To The Consul Representation of the Netherlands Government
We would like to present our strong protest and repudiation against the arbitrary arrest of Professor Jose Maria Sison, a Philippine citizen, a political exiled in Holland, who was despotically arrested at the police station of Utrecht, on August 28th, and surprisingly taken to the Scheveningen Prison, in the Hague, where he was placed in a confinement cell.
We strongly repudiate the tortures Professor Sison has been inflicted to, his total isolation, not allowed to have visits from his wife and family, neither medicines he needs nor his own doctor and not even winter clothes.
We repudiate the fascism of the Dutch police and government which disrespects the most elementary rights, acting like Nazi people, arresting and torturing a political prisoner, invading his house and the house of other Philippine exiled persons, breaking into their residences, taking away computers and other objects.
We condemn once more the fascism of the Netherlands government and we demand the immediate freedom of Professor Jose Maria Sison, the end of tortures and arbitrariness he has been suffering as well as the stop of persecutions against exiled and immigrant people. Entities List:
