Protest action for the release of Prof.Jose Amria Sison in Turkey/Istanbul

The imperialist aggression led by US imperialism continues under the concept of “war against terror” and takes it as a goal to especially attack national and social liberation struggles and the leaders of those struggles.

The recent example of this is the arrestment of 68 year old Prof. Jose Maria Sison on August 28 in Utrecht Holland. Sison is the general Chairperson of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS). They accuse Sison of being responsible for killing Romulu Kintantar and Arturo Tabara.  Further they claim that Sison is guilty of war crime. This is a claim, a claim and framed up charge by the EU imperialists and the ruling classes in the Philippines. For this reason, all over the world there have been initiatives of protest actions against this unjust arrestment and for the solidarity of JOMA and the Filipino people. Different campaigns have been launched.

Also in Istanbul/Turkey on Saturday, September 8th 2007 different revolutionary, progressive and anti-imperialist organisations came together under the call of ILPS Turkey to take action against this arrestment and they initiated a protest in front of the Netherland embassy in Taxim/Istanbul. They opened a common banner saying’ Free Jose Maria Sison! Besides the banner, there were placards with Sison’s photo and slogans in English and Turkish saying’ “Sison is not alone!” “Freedom for Sison”, “The Filipino People are not alone”, “Down with imperialism long live our struggle”!  The protest action gathered the attention from the people passing by the street. The press statement was read by a representative and it was declared that with this unjust charge the EU imperialist in collaboration with the Filipino ruling classes want to announce the national and social liberation struggle as an act of terrorism and with it the leaders of the movement. The statement continues like this “We the undersigned democratic institutions and associations hereby declare that we are condemning the continuing oppression against Sison and the liberation struggle of the Filipino peoples. Sison, is a revolutionary that defends democracy and the right of self determination. We demand the immediate release of Prof. JOMA and an end of the suppression against him. The action ended with the slogans “Freedom for JOMA”! and “Long Live International Solidarity”!

The statement was signed by ILPS- Turkey, BDSP,ESP,Halkevleri, ODAK, TUYAP, YDI Cagri, DHP.
