News Release September 14, 2007 Reference: Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy secretary general, KMP “Malacanang suffered another black eye with Joma’s release!”-KMP The NSC will definitely fabricate other cases The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) welcomed the decision of The Hague District Court ordering the release of Prof. Jose Maria Sison. According to Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy secretary general of KMP, “Prof. Sison has been vindicated by the Dutch court. This also proves that he is innocent and the case against him is very weak. In fact, the court has essentially junked the case against him,” “This is an initial victory of the Filipino people against state terror directed against progressives, but we must still be on our guard, the National Security Council (NSC) will definitely try to fabricate other cases to persecute and harass critics of the Macapagal-Arroyo regime. This is just round one, but Malacanang already suffered a black eye,” said Marbella. “Now the Macapagal-Arroyo regime is trying to dangle an amnesty offer to the CPP-NPA-NDF on the one hand, and threatening with military solution with the other. This is pure duplicity and is bound to fail when the root cause of the conflict is not addressed. That is why there was a peace talks so that this can be peacefully settled, but the administration has been acting in bad faith almost from day one,” added the peasant leader. “We support peace talks, but one that is based on justice and not on bullying and threats. The Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) has signed numerous agreements since 1992; they should both honor those agreements and work on the new ones so that this conflict can be settled. But as things go the GRP has put so many roadblocks for the talks to continue, because of their actions they are actually the ones recruiting more people for the other side,” ended Marbella. # # #
