Anti-CARP extension, anti-dam and anti-fascism

protest rally in Bohol

JUSTICE is their cry against corruption, waste of public funds and political killings.

More than 500 peasants and members of other sectors under HUMABOL and BAYAN member organizations successfully held
a protest-rally today to air their opposition to the planned CARP extension of the Arroyo administration. This was held, as part of the nationally coordinated protest action and was also in part in commemoration of PD 27 (Marcos land reform) and World Food (less) day.

The protest-march started at the Cogon Round Church at 1:30 in the afternoon. The protest rally was held for 5 minutes in front of the provincial capitol and was continued in the Tagbilaran Agora Square until 5:00 in the afternoon.

CARP related land problems, many questionable dam projects in the province and military repressions and psywar threats were the main issues addressed by the different speakers.

The demand for justice on the anomalous dam projects in the island of Bohol and government anomalies affecting the  peasantry were repeatedly echoed during the rally. The continuing political killings and the repression against the
peasantry in the form of militarization in the rural areas of the province through the Re-engineered Special Operations Team of 79th IB and 302nd Bge of Phil. Army under Oplan Bantay Laya were angrily denounced by the peasant leaders. Fisherfolks aired their opposition to the implementation of fisheries code of 1998 (RA 8550) and the planned oil exploration and extraction in the Visayan Sea.

The youth and women aired their support and unity against CARP extension, repression and political killings and demanded the ouster of the corrupt and fascist US-GMA administration. Genuine agrarian reform is the alternative that the militant peasantry is pushing. In the streets or in the landlord- dominated house of congress, the genuine agrarian reform program shall be pushed militantly. The new program should genuinely be able to solve the issue of landlessness and develop the agrarian sector for the good of the small farmers and push for national industrialization in the country.
