GABRIELA WOMEN'S PARTY STATEMENT ON THE CONGRESS BLAST

GABRIELA Women's Party denounces in the strongest possible terms the
blast that hit the House of Representatives, Tuesday night. We
demand that an independent investigation be conducted immediately
and that perpetrators are brought to justice. This incident
underscores the fact that not even the House of Representatives is
safe from attacks and mysterious blasts. We should lose no time in
getting to the bottom of this tragedy.

The blast left at least three dead, including Marcial Taldo, driver
and staff of Gabriela Representative Luz Ilagan, Basilan Rep. Whab
Akbar and Maan Abustanilo, staff of Negros Oriental Rep. Henry Teves.

Rep. Ilagan suffered a wound in her right thigh, and abrasions on
her back, neck and face while Mr. Ismael Lim, driver and staff of
Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza was wounded in the abdomen, arm and nape.
Both Rep. Ilagan and Lim are currently receiving treatment and are
recovering at the St. Lukes Hospital in Quezon City. #
