Some 300 lumads (indigenous peoples) and peasants from Boston, Cateel and Bagangga in Davao Oriental have come down from their homes in the mountains since February 12.
They lodged their demands at the provincial capital of Mati City and called for an immediate end to the militarization in their areas. The residents complained that they were harassed and beaten up by members of the 67th and 72nd Infantry Battalions. They said the military falsely accused them of being members or sympathizers of the New Peoples Army. |
