February 28, 2008 Clergy, laity ready to engage in communal political actions with or without Bishops Bishops can save GMA's soul by urging her to RESIGN – Solidarity Philippines "If you wish to save the President's soul, I ask you to urge her to resign… for her own good and for the good of the nation." Thus was the advice of Fr. Jose Dizon to the Assumption sisters and students during a forum on the current situation February 26 at the Assumption College, Makati. In the wake of the latest statement of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), the activist priest turned his advice to the Bishops: "We ask you to save Arroyo's soul by urging her to confess her sins and account for the ZTE scam and the string of corruption cases involving herself, FG Mike Arroyo and their cronies." "On February 29 and onwards, we in Solidarity Philippines, as a movement to proactively advance the Church' Social teachings, will simply continue with our efforts to challenge the systematic corruption and obstruction of justice under the morally bankrupt Arroyo government," Fr. Dizon declared. "The wave of protest expressions involving the broad religious groups nationwide strongly manifest that the Filipino clergy and laity are now ready to stand up for truth and urgent change. Even without a formal call for resignation of the Catholic hierarchy, thousands of church people, youth and various sectors who used to be passive are now getting involved in direct actions such as the February 29 rally," Fr. Dizon noted. "At this time, though we cannot expect the CBCP as a body to arrive at a unanimous call for Arroyo's resignation, we ask the Bishops in their individual capacity to issue stronger pronouncements in support of the people's communal actions for truth, justice and accountability. Even better, we ask the Bishops to take time to personally visit and enlighten GMA that her only chance to save her soul is by resigning from office and face accountability for multiple acts of corruption, deception and persecution against the Filipino people," Fr. Dizon concluded. Contact: Fr. Jose Dizon - 09209081994
