News Release March 2, 2008 Reference: Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano, chairman, KMP and president, ANAKPAWIS party list Militant peasants chide VP de Castro for being too eager to be president He should call for Gloria’s resignation first The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) chided Vice President Noli de Castro for being too eager and excited to become president by saying that he is prepared to become the top executive of the land. According to Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano, chairman of KMP and concurrent president of ANAKPAWIS party list, “before saying that he is prepared to become president VP Noli should have first done his homework in exposing the truth and working for justice and accountability. But as of late he is still playing coy and busy fence sitting,” “If he is really sincere in becoming a worthy president of the Filipino people then he should call for the resignation of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and join the rallies and other activities of us working for the truth. VP Noli should not be just sitting pretty and waiting for the presidency to fall on his lap. He should prove his worth and work for it,” said Mariano. “Besides if Gloria does not resign soon and she is ousted by a people power, the Filipino people can decide who to place in Malacanang, it can be him or it can put up a transition council that would truly represent and work for their interests. So it is not automatic that VP Noli will ascend to the presidency, because the people have learned their lesson from Gloria and they know that the constitutional successor may turn out worse than the first,” added the peasant leader. “If VP Noli continues to be ambivalent and does not side with the people soon then his dreams of becoming president may never come true, ultimately it is the Filipino masses who will decide,” ended Mariano. # # #
