News Release March 7, 2008 Reference: Ka Willy Marbella, deputy secretary general for internal affairs, KMP “RP-China Spratlys deal tantamount to treason!”-KMP More of the same in RP-China Agricultural deals The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) lambasted Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo anew for another deal that has once again compromised the territorial integrity of the country. It was found out that the Macapagal-Arroyo regime has entered in to a so-called Joint Marine Seismic Undertaking (JMSU) with China and Vietnam which will explore 142, 886 square kilometers in the Spratlys in the South China Sea starting July 2005. According to Ka Willy Marbella , internal deputy secretary general of KMP, “this is tantamount to treason, and what is worse is that in the RP-China Agricultural deals similar treasonous deals are in store. Gloria is essentially selling the country and its patrimony piece by piece,” “With the RP-China Agricultural deals at least 1.2 million hectares will be given to the Chinese for jatropha plantations. These are the primary reasons for the impending massive food crisis that our country will face as well as the poverty of majority of our population. Lands are being allocated for foreign use while Filipino farmers are displaced and evicted from their farms” said Marbella . “Instead of protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the Philippines , Gloria has once again sold us out. We support the calls for an independent investigation on this anomalous deal as well as the whole RP-China deals because the more we get to know about it, more of its stink is exposed. We also believe that this is not just enough for Gloria to be impeached but it is another strong argument for her immediate ouster,” added the peasant leader. “We can only solve this problem when Gloria is out of Malacanang and with the implementation of genuine agrarian reform, so that the people will defend their land with their lives and so that nobody will belittle our Motherland,” ended Marbella . # # #
