SYMPATHY UPON THE DEATH OF CRISPIN BELTRAN

On behalf of Chelsea Uniting Against the War (CUAW), a small anti-imperialist war organization based in the Latin American immigrant working class community of Chelsea, Massachusetts, we extend our deep sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Crispin Beltran, beloved leader and friend of the Filipino people and of workers and oppressed peoples around the world.

As an affiliated organization of the International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS), CUAW benefited from Brother Beltran's anti-imperialist and internationalist efforts as the founding and honorary chairman of the ILPS. We joined together with thousands around the world to protest his unjust and cruel detention by the Filipino government. We rejoiced at his release and were happy that he was able to join the workers out on the street once again in protests this May Day, 2008.

We believe that Brother Crispin Beltran was a living example of the slogan which has been chanted in May Day demonstrations in the USA the last few years as workers here are once again beginning to join hands with the international working class – "The working class struggle has no borders." Brother Crispin Beltran was a true internationalist working class leader and we will miss him greatly. We commit ourselves in his memory to continue the struggle to which he dedicated his life.

In solidarity,
