Lorico’s Death Fires-Up People’s heart
As the slain militant farmer leader Fermin Lorico brought to his final
resting place, people from different walks of life expressed condemnation
of the brutal act. His death further fired up the hearts and minds of his
fellow farmers and family members to continue Lorico’s struggle for his
land and the peoples struggle for a genuine agrarian reform.
About 300 farmers, friends, relatives and comrades from different parts of
the country came to Bayawan City to pay tribute to a great leader, a
fallen comrade.
Fermin Lorico Jr. grieved over his father’s death but realized how loved
he is not only by their family, “Wa ko magtuo nga ingon ani kapinangga si
Papa sa mga tawo…Nagpasalamat among pamilya sa pakigduyog kanamo ug sa mga
kaubanan ni Papa sa kasub-anan ug pagpangitag hustisya alang kaniya”.
Danilo “KaDaning” Ramos, Secretary General of Kilusang Magbubukid ng
Pilipinas tearfully said during Loricos Tribute, “Ang pagkamatay sa isang
bayani tulad ni Ka Fermin ay nagpapasiga ng sulo, isang libong sulo na
lumiliyab sa bawat isa sa atin sa paghahanap ng katarungan at pagpapatuloy
ng pakikibakang kanyang nasimulan”.
Families, friends and comrades jointly vowed to continue Lorico’s cause
for a genuine agrarian reform and to be vigilant and vocal on people’s
issues, the likes of CARP, Oil Deregulation Law, EVAT, Biofuels Act of
2006 and the Charter Change and Con Ass pushed by Gloria and her cohorts
as they.
Juliet Ragay of KAUGMAON reiterated that KAUGMAON will persist their call
for HB3059 (Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill) and against anti-farmer and
anti-people policies and laws of Gloria. KAUGMAON also urged the immediate
STOP of the militarization of the countryside and immediate pull-out of
the AFP in Negros Oriental Countryside before the farmers death count rise
from the existing total of six since the last year quarter of 2008.
