Activist killed in Albay


Another political activist based in Albay was shot dead by unidentified assailants, ABS-CBN Regional Network News reported Sunday. 

An Initial report identified the victim as Pong Alvarado, Albay Bayan Provincial Coordinator. He was shot dead around 5 p.m. in his house in Ligao.

Police are still investigating the shooting.

The shooting took place days after President Arroyo ordered police to intensify their efforts and work closer with local communities to counter a rash of unsolved political killings. 

"The president has already instructed the Philippine National Police to intensify further police visibility and mobility," Bunye said. 

Bunye said the rash of killings was a "deep concern" of the president, regardless of the motives.
