02 - Albay guv condemns killing of Bayan Muna leader

Albay Governor Fernando Gonzalez condemned Tuesday the killing of another party list group leader, Rodolfo Alvarado, chairman of Bayan Muna in this province.

Alvarado, who was then on board his Toyota car, was ambushed on New Year's eve by a gunman aboard a motorcycle around 4:45 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Ligao City. He died instantly.

Gonzalez urged the Melo commission to conduct the necessary investigation for the immediate resolution of the case.

"The Melo commission is tasked to resolve all extra-judicial killings and the incident that happened in Ligao City is another job for them," Gonzalez stressed.

The governor also ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) provincial office to come up with an early solution of the crime and for the immediate identification of the perpetrators.

"We do not know yet the motive of Alvarado's killing but what we are sure of is that the incident is similar to other extra-judicial killings that happened in the country," he said.

Gonzalez added that the authorities should look into the real perpetrators. "We do not want to presume or pinpoint the responsible group for the killing of Alvarado." (PNA)
